The concept of “Saturday at the Pond” came from various jokes my friends made and a misjudgment about the definition between a noise and a sound. My debut album released last august was a noise album, and since then my friends and I have made jokes about my “noise career,” making various funny loud noises and saying I would play it at ironic unfitting occasions, like prom or a campfire. My friend, featured in the recordings, suggested I make a “fishing noise album”. What at first sounded to me like recording us fishing with noise overlayed on top of it turned into an album featuring a calm and quaint afternoon setting, one where I take the listener through ambient soundscapes of what it’s like to fish with my friend on a sunny afternoon. From birds tweeting to airplanes flying overhead; from cracking repetitive jokes to learning how to fish; from getting my hook stuck in algae to catching (and holding) my first bass. I like the idea of immortalizing a moment in time in some way, whether it be a picture or a recording, and I think I capture a lovely afternoon with this one.
I’d like to thank many people. Would like to thank Zach and Quentin for being in the recordings and contributing some banter that afternoon. Would like to thank those who inspired and continue to inspire me. This includes: Moby, Steve Roach, Talk Talk (Rest in Peace Mark Hollis), William Basinski, Ludvig Cimbrelius, specifically under the moniker “Purl”, Daniel Lopathain, CM Von Hausswolff, Merzbow, Folke Rabe, Brian Eno, Eric Chenaux, C418, Kali Malone, and many more artists for making very safe and cozy albums I have not only been inspired from listening to, but are all around very talented artists I adore greatly. Without hearing them I would absolutely not be where I am today, making the music I want to make right now. I’d like to thank Kenzie for helping me through some of the nightmares that were thrown at me throughout the process of recording, as well as helping me understand the ins and outs of mixing for the first time. Would like to thank my many supportive friends and especially my girlfriend Chloe who helps me better myself every day and has supported all my quirky and sometimes borderline odd endeavors.
